NEW GLOUCESTER — Town Manager Carrie Castonguay confirmed Friday that Fire Chief James Ladewig was placed on paid administrative leave Thursday, Oct. 18.

Castonguay said by telephone Friday that she is in the middle of an investigation on the matter that she hopes will be completed by next week. She declined to give details on the case.

She said Deputy Chief Roger Levasseur is in charge of the Fire Department, based on the command structure of the department.

Ladewig was named full-time chief Feb. 8, 2016. Prior to that, he was assistant fire chief of the Olmos Park Fire Department on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, where he had served for 25 years.
