Margaret True Racette, was born in 1931, daughter of Harry and Louise True passed away on July 28, 2020 after a short illness.  She went to school in New Gloucester and graduated from Nasson College with a teaching degree.  She taught home economics in Springfield MA for 17 years, retiring when her daughter Nannette was born.  She loved to teach and often said if a student didn’t understand, she needed to find a different way to explain the lesson.  She and her family moved back to her beloved New Gloucester full time in 1981 living in the lower village and spending summers on True’s Point at Sabbathday Lake.   She loved sharing the stories of her childhood and historical knowledge in the New Gloucester News column “Do You Know New Gloucester” and always had a story on hand for anyone wanting to listen.  She also loved genealogy and traced her family tree back five generations.  Margaret was an avid quilter and taught a quilting class for many years .  In recent years she lived at Springhills Assisted Living in Morristown NJ where she went out to lunch weekly with her daughter and granddaughters.  Margaret was predeceased by her husband Raymond Racette in 1984.  She is survived by her daughter Nannette Racette-Aguayo, son in law Jose Manuel and granddaughters Ava and Sophia.  A service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at the Lower Gloucester Cemetery at 10am.
