General Incident Description: At 1300, the National Weather Service in Gray, ME issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for an area that included New Gloucester. At around the same time, Cumberland County Regional Communications Center took a call for a tree that had fallen on a vehicle with reported entrapment. Shortly after, CCRCC began taking multiple calls for storm damage. Engine 2, Squad 1, and Ambulance 1 handled the MVA on Shaker Road. After clearing that, resources were split up to handle the multiple calls at once. Between 1258 and 1352, New Gloucester Fire and Rescue took 7 calls for service. By the end of the afternoon, NGFR had responded to 13 calls for service.

Damage included a tree on a home on Sunset Shores Rd, multiple trees and wires down and across the roadway on Cobbs Bridge Road, Meadow Lane, and Woodman Road. This included broken utility poles as well. There was also a broken utility pole on Durham Road, a wire down on Cider Mill Road, a wire down on Penney Road, and a tree on the wires on Bennett Road. Companies worked with CMP and NG PWD to clear roads and make it safe for CMP to begin working to restore power. All companies were in quarters at 1828.

Mutual Aid to the Scene: Gray ambulance to 707 Shaker Road, canceled enroute. New Gloucester Public Works and CMP provided mutual aid on scene of many of the wires down calls.

Mutual Aid to the Station: None

Injuries: Two minor injuries in the MVA.

Factors: Severe Thunderstorm with high winds.

PSA: No line is safe to touch. If there is a wire down, call 911 and the fire department will respond.

Special Thanks: Special thanks to the CCRCC who did a very professional and thorough job handling multiple calls and coordinating response efforts with the fire department. Also thank you to NG PWD for assisting with their loader.
