Budget hearing/meetings April 16

To: Citizens of New Gloucester

From: Peter Bragdon, Candidate for Selectmen

A Marathon Night of Public Hearings/Meetings you should know about!  Please spread the word….

We need you!   At topic is your town budget with a proposed estimated / rough increase of 23% (per the selectmen meeting).

Please be advised there will be the following public hearings/meetings held on this coming TUESDAY at 6pm.  The meeting will be held at the AMVETS Hall, 1095 Lewiston Rd.

The first topic is the proposed Senior Tax Payer Assistance Program.  It is my understanding, it will allow for qualifying seniors to get up to $1000 assistance with their tax bill. Cost of the program to the town would be up to $50,000. This will be drawn from the undesignated fund balance.

Following will be a presentation by the fire rescue department on the budget for the fiscal year 2019-2020.  This budget includes transforming the department from a volunteer department to a paid response department. It will also include 24/7 Ems coverage.

Next on the agenda is a public hearing allowing the public to speak on any part of the budget.  This will be in front of the budget committee. They will hear your concerns/comments and take them under advisement.

Lastly, the budget committee will close out the night with their meeting.  They will make their final recommendations for the budget. It will then be forwarded to the selectmen for action.   The final budget will be voted on by the townspeople on May 6th at the town meeting.

Please plan on attending.  An abundance of important information will be discussed.

I sit on the budget committee and will be looking for public input on several topics.

If I can be of any assistance please let me know.
